Who we are
HomeFinder WA (“HomeFinder WA,” “we,” “us”) operates the directory at adulthomefinder.com. We are a free, independent directory that helps Washington families find licensed adult family homes (AFHs). We are not a healthcare provider, a care broker, a referral service, or a placement agency. We do not provide medical care, advice, or recommendations about any specific home.
What we collect
We collect three categories of information:
1. Account information (owners) — When an adult family home operator creates an owner account, we collect their name, email address, phone number, password (stored hashed by Firebase Authentication, never visible to us), and the details they choose to post about their home (name, address area, license number, photos, care specialties, amenities, vacancy, pricing notes).
2. Inquiry information (families)— When a family uses our forms to contact a home, request a visit, or ask for admission information, we collect the name, email or phone they provide, the home they're inquiring about, any care needs they choose to share, and the message they send. We pass this information to the owner of the home being inquired about.
3. Visit information (everyone) — When you visit the site, we collect standard technical data: IP address, browser type, pages viewed, referring URL, and timestamps. We use this to operate, secure, and improve the site.
How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Show owner listings to families searching by city, care type, language, and vacancy
- Route family inquiries to the owner of the home they're asking about
- Send the transactional emails our service depends on (account confirmations, owner notifications, listing-status updates)
- Detect and prevent abuse, fraud, or misuse of the platform
- Improve search results, listing quality, and the user experience
- Comply with applicable law and respond to legal process
We do not sell personal information to third parties and we do not use family inquiry information for advertising.
We do not handle protected health information
HomeFinder WA is not a Covered Entity or Business Associate under HIPAA. Information you submit through our forms is not treated as protected health information (PHI), regardless of its content. If you need to share clinical records, medication lists, or other PHI with an adult family home, please do so directly with the home — not through HomeFinder WA.
How long we keep it
We retain inquiry information so the receiving home can manage and respond to it over time, and so we can resolve disputes if they arise. Owners can request that we delete an inquiry or their entire account at any time. Account information is kept while the account is active and for a reasonable period after closure to comply with tax, audit, and legal-hold obligations. Visit / technical logs are typically retained for up to 18 months.
Security
We use industry-standard practices to protect information: HTTPS for all traffic, hashed credentials via Firebase Authentication, least- privilege access for our team, and managed infrastructure with ongoing security updates. No system is perfectly secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security. If we become aware of a breach that affects you, we will notify you as required by applicable law.
Your choices and rights
You can:
- Access and update your owner account information at any time from /owner/settings/
- Pause a listing so it's no longer publicly visible, or delete it entirely
- Adjust your notification preferences
- Request deletion of any inquiry you submitted by emailing contact@adulthomefinder.com with the home, your name, and the date you submitted it
- Close your owner account by emailing the same address; we'll delete or anonymize associated data unless retention is required by law
Washington state residents
Washington residents have rights under the Washington My Health My Data Act and other state privacy laws. As noted above, we do not collect “consumer health data” under MHMDA — our forms aren't designed to receive it, and we ask users not to send it. If you believe we have collected such information about you, please contact us and we will delete it.
Minors
HomeFinder WA is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe we have, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves. If we make material changes, we'll update the “Effective” date at the top and, when significant, notify owners by email. Continued use of the site after an update constitutes your acceptance of the revised policy.
